Escape to Paradise: Stunning Beachfront Apartment in Boltenhagen, Germany!
Escape to Paradise: Boltenhagen – My Messy, Honest Takeaway!
Alright, buckle up, because I just got back from a whirlwind stay at "Escape to Paradise: Stunning Beachfront Apartment" in Boltenhagen, Germany, and I'm still processing it. Forget polished reviews – this is the raw, unfiltered truth, sprinkled with a healthy dose of my personal baggage.
First Impressions (and a near-panic attack):
The name! It's a bold claim, "Escape to Paradise," which, in my experience, usually sets me up for disappointment. But, driving up, I was immediately like, "Woah." The beach was right there. Like, practically whispering, "Come on down, you stressed-out mess." (That's me, by the way.) The apartment complex itself looked swanky, modern, and… intimidating. I had a slight freak-out about where the actual escape was going to happen, hoping it wasn't just going to be another Instagram-perfect façade.
Accessibility (and my clumsy soul):
Okay, let's be real. I’m not exactly the picture of grace, and I’m always tripping over air. The apartment itself was described as "accessible"—thank goodness I checked that. It definitely had elevators (thank GOD), and thankfully, the entryways were wide enough to accommodate a small tank. I was terrified of having to haul my suitcase up flights of stairs. As for wheelchair accessibility, I couldn’t fully test it (thankfully, I can still walk!), but everything seemed to be designed with ease of movement in mind. Which is a huge win!
Getting Connected (My crippling Wi-Fi dependency):
Listen, if the Wi-Fi is wonky, my vacation is basically ruined. Seriously. My life revolves around the internet (don't judge!). The good news? Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Praise be! And it was actually decent, which is a miracle. They also had Internet [LAN] access, so for those who like to plug in (grandma?) you're covered. Also Wi-Fi in the public areas; super handy for pretending to be productive while sipping a cocktail by the pool. (More on the pool later.)
Food, Glorious Food (My perpetually hungry self):
Okay, where to begin with the feasting? The Breakfast in room option was an absolute lifesaver on the mornings I just wanted to wallow in bed. They also had a breakfast takeaway service, perfect for grabbing a quick bite on the go. The Asian breakfast thing sounded intriguing… but I'm a picky eater.
There were a few restaurants on-site, with a a la carte in restaurant option. Asian cuisine in restaurant, which was interesting to keep my options open. The buffet in restaurant was a solid option (but can be a risk of overeating) and seemed a bit basic. Happy hour at the poolside bar was a non-negotiable part of my itinerary. Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop, Desserts in restaurant, Salad in restaurant were all fine and made for a filling experience.
The room service [24-hour] was a godsend for those midnight cravings (like me). And the snack bar? Well, let's just say I made friends with the staff there.
But the biggest, most glorious food experience? The vegetarian restaurant. They offered a bottle of water with the meal which was amazing. I ate so many meals there that the staff knew my name probably. The food was a revelation, with creative dishes that made me forget I was even missing meat. The soup was the ultimate comfort. It was so good. I even tried the Western cuisine in restaurant, it was a bit less impressive than the vegetarian restaurant but still amazing.
Relaxation Central (My quest for Zen – and failing miserably):
They had the whole shebang: Sauna, Spa, Spa/sauna, Steamroom, Body wrap, Body scrub, Foot bath, Massage. I’m not very spa- going, so I was a bit intimidated. But. I went for a massage. And I was not happy at all. It felt too expensive! I'm sure it was high-quality, but it felt like a waste of money.
The Swimming pool itself was pretty impressive. Pool with view. I spent a shocking amount of time just staring at the water. It was therapeutic, I guess. They definitely kept it clean. The Swimming pool [outdoor] was amazing in the sunshine.
There's a Fitness center – good for all those calories I consumed, I guess. I felt a bit guilty, and I never made it, though. Daily disinfection in common areas:
I appreciate that they're trying to keep things clean.
Services and Conveniences (The stuff you don't think about until you need it):
The concierge was super helpful, even when I was asking the dumbest questions (like, "Where's the best place to buy a postcard?"). Cash withdrawal was convenient. Daily housekeeping kept things tidy, thank GOD. The elevators were spotless.
Rooms, Rooms, Rooms (My temporary home, AKA, a sanctuary of peace):
The apartment itself was… stunning. Seriously. Air conditioning was obviously necessary because I can’t function in heat. The additional toilet was a HUGE plus, no squabbling. Bathtub was dreamy. The bathrobes were the epitome of luxury. I loved the blackout curtains—essential for sleeping in after a late night at the poolside bar. Free bottled water – always appreciated. The hair dryer was powerful. In-room safe box for all your valuables—essential for a paranoid person like yours truly. Refrigerator to chill my wine. Satellite/cable channels in case I got bored. The seating area was perfect for, you know, actually sitting. The shower was heaven. The slippers felt luxurious. The smoke detector. The soundproofing, was a dream. The wake-up service saved me from being late. Wi-Fi [free], of course.
I loved the reading light, the umbrella, and the window that opens. Desk and laptop workspace were good for getting into work as well.
Things to Do (Beyond lounging - but let's be honest, mostly lounging):
I didn't do much besides soak up the sun and stuff my face (see food review above). They had a kids meal, which hinted at families, I think. The terrace was lovely. The gift/souvenir shop came in handy. There was a smoking area. But seriously, the beach itself is the main attraction.
Safety First (My constant state of low-level panic):
They had the essentials – fire extinguisher, front desk [24-hour], security [24-hour], smoke alarms, CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property, all the things to keep your mind at ease. They used anti-viral cleaning products, which made me feel extra safe. They even trained staff in safety protocol. I really appreciated their efforts.
Getting Around (My almost-epic fail with the car):
They had EVERYTHING. Airport transfer, Bicycle parking, Car park [free of charge], Car park [on-site], Car power charging station, Taxi service, Valet parking. The car park [free of charge] was a huge help.
For the Kids (Because apparently, people travel with children?):
They had a babysitting service if you really need a break. The place was family/child friendly, with kids facilities too. I’m not a parent, so no observations there.
Cleanliness and Safety (My inner germaphobe’s assessment):
Top marks. The place was spotless. The rooms sanitized between stays, which eased my mind. The staff seemed genuinely concerned about hygiene. Individually-wrapped food options were available, and they even had sanitized kitchen and tableware items.
Check-in/out (How I almost lost my sanity – briefly):
Check-in/out [express] and Contactless check-in/out were available, which was great. The whole process was relatively painless. **Important Notes for the Paranoid: **
- They had a first aid kit.
- Hand sanitizer was everywhere.
- I appreciated the hot water linen and laundry washing.
- There was a doctor/nurse on call.
- The safe dining setup, added to my comfort.
- They removed shared stationery—smart.
- The rooms sanitized between stays, a big plus.
- And. Room sanitization opt-out available to everyone's likes.
The Imperfections (Because Paradise isn't perfect):
Okay, so the whole "Escape to Paradise" thing? A little over-the-top, maybe. The staff was friendly, but sometimes the language barrier was a bit tricky. The prices… let's just say I'm glad I saved up.
Unbelievable Ski-In/Ski-Out Apartment in Piesendorf, Austria!Okay, buckle up, buttercups! We're diving headfirst into my (slightly chaotic) Boltenhagen adventure. Prepare for sand in your imaginary shoes and the distinct possibility of me losing my damn sunglasses. This is no perfectly planned itinerary, this is a human's attempt to have a good time.
Wohnung in Boltenhagen: Operation "Beach Bliss (Maybe)" - A Messy Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Hopes High, Luggage (Hopefully) In Tact
- 10:00 AM: After a train ride from Berlin that felt approximately the length of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (and involved a screaming toddler who clearly wasn’t vibing with my audiobook), we finally arrive in Boltenhagen. The air smells of salty freedom and… maybe a hint of seaweed, which is fine. I’m here for it.
- 10:30 AM: Find the apartment. Or, try to find it. I’ve got a map, but I swear, the German street signs are designed to be deliberately confusing. After circling the block three times (humiliatingly, in front of a group of stoic-looking cyclists), we locate "Strandnaehe Apartment #4B". The keys actually work. Victory!
- 11:00 AM: Unpack. Or attempt to. My travel bag exploded slightly in the process of getting off the train. Finding my favorite t-shirt is like an archeological dig.
- 12:00 PM: First impressions of the apartment: Clean, bright, and… okay, the furniture arrangement is a bit… off. The couch practically screams, "Don't sit on me, you'll ruin the pristine vibe!" I'm already itching to rearrange it.
- 1:00 PM: Food acquisition. Gotta replenish the energy reserves! Find a Bäcker (bakery) – the air smells of heaven and I buy a Franzbrötchen, the best decision I've made all day. Stroll through the town to get my bearings, it's already gorgeous.
- 2:00 PM: Beach time! This is it, the moment I've been waiting for. Walk to the beach, armed with a towel, book, and a ridiculous straw hat (judge me, I dare you). The Baltic Sea… is a bit brisk. Okay, very brisk.Dip a toe in. Ouch. Never mind, I'm not going in.
- 3:00 PM: Attempt to read my book. Fail miserably. The seagulls are too insistent, the sun is too strong and I feel it on my skin.
- 4:00 PM: Okay, I need a beer. Find a beach bar, order a local brew, and watch the world go by. Pure, unadulterated bliss. Someone needs to give me a medal for this.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner at a local restaurant. The menu is in German (obviously). Point at things, and hoping for the best. Surprisingly tasty.
- 8:00 PM: Walk along the pier. The sunset is breathtaking. I even get a fleeting moment of feeling truly connected to the universe. Then, one of my sunglasses goes missing. Sigh.
Day 2: The Unexpected Adventure of the Miniature Golf and the Great Cake Search
- 9:00 AM: Wake up feeling… surprisingly okay. Maybe the Baltic air is good for me. Or maybe it’s the lack of responsibilities.
- 10:00 AM: Breakfast in the apartment. Breakfast of champions this time, a Franzbrötchen and a cup of coffee.
- 11:00 AM: Okay, here's where things get… interesting. We stumble upon a miniature golf course. Now, I’m not usually a miniature golf person. I am a notoriously poor putter. But, curiosity gets the best of me. I challenge my husband to a game, expecting humiliation, and I actually. play okay? I didn't win, but I got a few pars!
- 1:00 PM: Fuel the belly, searching for cake! My mission of finding the best Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake) in Boltenhagen. This is serious business.
- 2:00 PM: The first cafe is a disappointment. Dry cake, weak coffee. Fail. I don’t even want to mention how the barista look at me as I complained about the sugar level of the drink
- 2:30 PM: Second attempt! Success! Find a charming little cafe with a massive selection of cakes. Order a slice of Black Forest gateau. This is what life is all about.
- 3:30 PM: Beach walk. This time, armed with a better sense of direction and… maybe a slightly more successful hunt for the missing sunglasses. Still no luck, though. The sea seems to have swallowed them.
- 5:00 PM: Find a cozy little shop and end up buying a ridiculously oversized (and probably completely impractical) knitted scarf. It’s the perfect souvenir of my temporary freedom.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner. This time I go for schnitzel, and it is glorious. Germany, you are good to me.
- 8:00 PM: Stroll along the promenade. The lights reflecting on the water are magical. Find another beach bar and order a cocktail. It might have been a bit too strong.
Day 3: The Beach, The Sea, More Beach… And The Farewell (Teary-Eyed, Possibly)
- 9:00 AM: Wake up. The sun streams through the window. It's a perfect day. For some reason, I'm feeling a little melancholic.
- 10:00 AM: Head to the beach, determined to spend the entire day soaking up the sun (and maybe actually going in the sea this time).
- 11:00 AM: Spend an hour sitting in the sand reading my book. Feel a sense of contentment that I rarely find.
- 12:00 PM: Lunch: picnic on the beach. Simple, delicious.
- 1:00 PM: The Great Swim: I face (and conquer!) my fear of the freezing Baltic waters. It is cold. Very cold. But I did it! I’m a champion.
- 2:00 PM: More reading, more sunbathing, more… staring out at the sea, feeling strangely content.
- 4:00 PM: Walk around Boltenhagen for a final time, buying a ridiculously overpriced ice cream cone.
- 6:00 PM: Pack. Ugh. The dreaded moment. It’s amazing how much stuff I’ve accumulated in just three days.
- 7:00 PM: Final dinner. Thinking about how much I loved the simple freedom of traveling alone.
- 8:00 PM: A final sunset walk. Watch the sun sink into the sea. This is something I’ll never forget.
- 9:00 PM: Last glass of wine on the balcony. Tears are shed. Not because I'm sad, but because I’m filled with a sense of gratitude.
Day 4: The Departure
- 7:00 AM: Wake up and get ready to depart.
- 8:00 AM: Breakfast in the apartment, which now looks completely empty.
- 9:00 AM: The train leaves.
- 10:00 AM: On the train, feeling the exhaustion of travelling.
Okay, so maybe this isn't the most meticulously planned itinerary. There were moments of pure bliss, moments of minor frustration, and a whole lot of cake. But it was my trip. And it was perfect, in its own imperfect way. Boltenhagen, you were wonderful. And you can be sure, I will return.
